SEND Support
Meole Brace School is committed to being an inclusive, caring and cheerful community that strives to develop the academic, personal and social skills of all our students to the highest standards. Our ethos is Learning, Respect, Success, and we uphold these values for all students, regardless of their Special Educational Needs or Disabilities.
In most cases this is achieved through high quality teaching delivered in the classroom. Teaching strategies are offered to meet the needs of the majority of students, with reasonable adjustments made to ensure equality of access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Where additional support is needed our aim is for this to take place in the classroom under the guidance of the subject teacher and, in some cases, with the help of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), using strategies designed specifically with the student in mind to help them to succeed.
Some students will need something additional to and different from what is provided for the majority of students; this is special educational provision and we will use our best endeavours to ensure that provision is made for those who need it. We have a wide range of interventions, from literacy and numeracy to social skills and therapeutic interventions, run both by school staff and outside agencies.
A Special Educational Need is when a student has “a learning difficulty or disability that is a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age.”
The SEND Team will liaise with teaching staff, feeder schools during transition, outside agencies and families when identifying the needs of students and the best way of ensuring that students are able to access the mainstream curriculum successfully. We use the Graduated Response system of Assess, Plan, Do, Review to ensure our provisions are timely, effective and appropriate.
Further details about our approach are available in the SEND Information Report on the school’s website. In addition, information on the Shropshire Council approach to SEND is available on the ‘Local Offer’ section of their website.
